When the kids first came home we just had one crib...and 2 pack and plays. One of our fabulous neighbors passed down their crib and mattress. This crib was awesome since it had extra drawers for storage...and it was FREE!!! This system worked out great for the first few months. Eventually as the kids grew we purchased two more cribs and 2 mattresses to go along with those cribs.
When Douglas and I were picking out the mattresses we stood in front of the infinite options and debated.
"What's the big deal with the expensive ones, anyway?" "They are just sleeping on them."
"They're just little babies. Let's just get the cheapest one. I'm sure it's just fine."
We had already felt like what felt like a small fortune on triplet gear. This seemed like an easy way to keep our expenses low.
And everything was fine for a while. What we failed to visualize is that sweet 10 lb babies turn into 30 pound toddlers. Who like to jump.
Leona has actually jumped several holes in her mattress. And Sam isn't far behind. Gabe's mattress is just fine. Obviously our neighbors are smarter than we are because this mattress has survived their two kids and one of ours. We should have asked them for advice BEFORE we bought our first mattresses. Apparently mattresses are one of those things where you do get what you pay for!
So I bit the bullet and bought TWO new mattresses...the good ones. Hopefully this will last them a while longer. If not they'll just have to sleep on the floor. They can't bounce through that...at least I don't think so!!!
Getting new mattresses was a pretty exciting thing for the kids. We took the old mattresses out and they had a fantastic time bouncing and jumping all over them! We were going to throw them away but I think we'll keep them a little bit longer!!! My kids can find fun in almost anything!
Here's the hole in Leona's mattress. It even made a hole in the bedskirt. That's a lot of bouncing!
