A Trip to the Allergist

On Monday Gabe and Mommy went on a little adventure together. He was pretty excited about going out with just the two of us. It's hard to get one on one time with the kids and unfortunately sometimes doctor appointments are not the most fun but they do like the attention!

It has been 2 years since we first took Gabe to the allergy specialist. On our first visit he had to have nasty scratch tests to test for various allergies. One of the main allergies we discovered was an allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. We had him retested this week and the nurse called me today. Sometimes when young children are tested for an allergy it will go away after a few years. Gabe's peanut allergies have actually increased. So needless to say he won't be sharing my Reese's Pieces on our next trip to the movies!

The doctor was also concerned with his wheezing so he increased his inhaled medications and gave us more of a mask to use as opposed to a blower on his face. He's handled this change so well thus far. We go back in one month to see how he is doing.

The worst part of our time together was our trip to the lab. To do the test poor Gabe had to give up a little bit of blood. And he wasn't happy about it at all!!! I even took my iPod with Mickey Mouse and that wasn't enough to distract him. He screamed and screamed and screamed. Poor little guy. The technicians felt sorry for him and produced a very cute stuffed bear for him to take home. He was very proud of his bandage and his new bear has found a new home in his bed (along with Doggie, Froggie, Big Pooh and Little Pooh!). We better not have too many more blood draws or he'll have to find a new bed to sleep in!
