Sam and Leona both needed new bikes. They were both getting pretty big for their 12" bikes. Gabe had a 10 inch bike and besides needing a new back end of the bike he also needed to move up a size.
I convinced Gabe that riding Sam's bike would be REALLY cool. Miraculously he bought it. On Friday I happened to find a boy's 16 inch bike at the resale shop for $35. It's a hot wheels bike and Sam is pretty proud of it.
As I was walking out of a the store a guy was bringing in a girl's bike to sell or trade. I offered him $20 cash and brought home a new purple 16 inch bike for Leona. It has cute green frogs on it which she thinks is for Tiana the "Frog Princess". Perfect.
We Sam and Leona on their new bikes without their training wheels. They were terrified and wanted their training wheels back on. Hopefully once they get used to these bikes being a tiny bit bigger they will want to try them without the training wheels again soon.
So now we had Sam's old bike for Gabe to try. He's been wanting to try it without training wheels for a while. So we took them off. And he took right off.
It's like he's been doing this his whole life. Remember when he went skiing and didn't fall? This kid is amazing. He pedals like crazy now. And all the kids are SO proud of him.
My eyes filled with tears and my heart swelled as I watched him race down the sidewalk. Riding without training wheels is one of those monumental moments in childhood. He's so proud of himself. For being such a tiny guy he really is a phenomenal athlete.
But even the best athletes crash sometimes. It took 3 days though before his first skinned knee.
He's not the only one that crashes after too many bike rides!
