Buzzzzzzzzz

Today we took the kids to the Hyde Park Street Fair. It's actually not on a street but in a really great park in Boise. It's kind of like Art in the Park in the essence that there are fun vendors and booths but these two events could not be more opposite. Art in the Park has amazing art that I can't afford. The Hyde Park Street Fair is well ummm...it's a little flashback to the 1960's. It's a great place to show off your tie-dye shirts and Birkenstocks.

As soon as the kids saw the playground equipment Sam starts yelling "YEAH PARK!!!". He was so excited! The kids had a great time playing on the playground equipment and the bounce houses for a while. We walked around looking at all kinds of crazy booths.

After a while we decided to get some lunch. Earlier in the summer we had gotten a really yummy turkey drumstick from one of the food vendors and they had turkey drumsticks again today so we got one. The kids love eating the yummy meat right off the bone. Especially Sam. He's definitely our biggest carnivore of the group.

The only problem with the turkey drumstick is that it attracts bees. At first there were only a couple bees that were annoying but not anything too bad. Then one of the bees must have gone and told all of his bee buddies about the lovely sweet BBQ sauce on the drumstick. So we had a nice swarm of 10-15 bees buzzing around. Doug kept trying to walk away but the bees would always follow him back. Stupid smart bees.

Well as Sam was going to get a bite he got more than he bargained for. A bee stung him on his bottom lip! He cried such big tears and Douglas finally got rid of the blasted drumstick. Gabe knocked over my (nearly full) lemonade in the ruckus. Doug's in a panic that Sam's going to stop breathing. Leona has realized that no one is monitoring the pretzel bag and that she is free to grab handfuls to her heart's content. I'm trying to comfort Sam and dry his sad tears.

I had some motrin along so we got him some of that. It kicked in pretty quickly and he soon forgot about the pain and tried to help Leona with some of her pretzels. His lip swelled up though and he kept touching it trying to figure out what was wrong with it. He snuggled on my shoulder back to the car.

We got him some benadryl too once we got home and he went up for his nap. As soon as he was up he was saying "Buggie bit. Nam (Sam) ouchie.". Poor little guy! His swelling was pretty much gone by this evening though and he seemed to be his happy normal self. There really is never a dull moment at our house.

Sam's big fat bottom lip!
